Key Motivation
Exposing Drosau's historical deceptions and securing justice for the Autumn Fae

Isolda is a poised fae woman with pale, cool-toned skin and high cheekbones framed by slate-gray hair woven with delicate silver thread. She wears floor-sweeping courtly gowns of deep indigo and frosted crimson velvet, tailored with high collars that mirror the sharp lines of winter foliage. Her movements are fluid and deliberate, carrying the faint crushed juniper.

She speaks in a soft, measured tone, choosing every word with surgical precision to mask her intense political ambitions behind a veil of aristocratic composure. However, when addressing the long-standing deceit of the Drosauan crown, her eyes narrow into a cold, uncompromising focus.

Isolda is fiercely dedicated to restoring what she views as true justice for Grimroot, harbouring a deep disdain for human hypocrisy. Unflappable under pressure, she maneuvers through high-stakes diplomatic proceedings with a sharp eye for leverage, readily employing quiet manipulation to dismantle her enemies’ authority from within.

The Price of Old Lies

Prince Gwion Maengor carries the fate of Drosau into the shadowy depths of the Bryncoed Forest. For 1,000 years, the Bryncoed Accord maintained a fragile peace between the human kingdom and the Autumn Fae of Grimroot. That treaty was secured on a monumental lie: Drosau’s monarchs claimed draconic authority to command and subdue dragons, intimidating the fae into compliance. With the 1,000-year term expiring, the rulers of the Bramblecrest Throne have uncovered the deception and demand a complete renegotiation. Sent by his father, King Dradoc, Prince Gwion must navigate these lethal diplomatic waters—unaware of the astronomical price the fae intend to extract, or the unexpected personal cost it will carry.

Encounter Tier: APL 1–10 | Social & Political Intrigue

  • The Trigger: Triggers when the party is approached by General Eirawyn Stoneford in Drosau. She advises them of the volatile political climate, warns of the expiring accord, and hires or urges them to assist with the impending summit and negotiating fair terms between the two sides.
  • The Objective: Once the party links up with Prince Gwion, he asks them to serve as his personal diplomatic entourage at the Bramblecrest Throne. Upon arrival, the court pairs Gwion with Lord Crispin Ciderwell, a high-ranking male fae envoy tasked with ensuring his comfort. While Prince Gwion is locked in proceedings, a member of the fae council approaches the party and introduces herself as Isolda. She explains Drosau's deceit and requets the group's assistance in righting the wrongs of the past by bringing her proof of their lies. During this time, the party can secretly investigate records back in Cyndraig and return to her with the documents. Meanwhile, as negotiations wear on, Prince Gwion and Lord Crispin spend most of their free time together and find themselves falling deeply in love.

Fey Ancestry. Isolda has advantage on saving throws against being charmed, and magic can’t put her to sleep.

Innate Spellcasting. Isolda’s innate spellcasting ability is Charisma (spell save DC 15). She can innately cast the following spells, requiring no material components:

At will: detect magic, disguise self, friends
3/day each: charm person, misty step
1/day each: compulsion, suggestion

Grasp of the Autumn Court. When Isolda casts a spell that deals damage or forces a saving throw, she can choose to infuse it with autumn decay. One affected target must succeed on a DC 15 Constitution saving throw or have its speed halved until the end of its next turn.

Actions / Bonus Actions

Multiattack. Isolda makes two attacks with her Frostfire Touch or uses Mind Sliver twice.

Frostfire Touch. Melee Spell Attack: +7 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 13 (2d8 + 4) cold damage plus 9 (2d8) radiant damage.

Mind Sliver. Ranged Spell Attack: +7 to hit, range 60 ft., one target. Hit: 11 (2d6 + 4) psychic damage, and the target must subtract 1d4 from the next saving throw it makes before the end of Isolda’s next turn.

Autumn Mist (Recharge 5–6). Isolda releases a swirling wave of icy mist and crushed juniper in a 20-foot radius centered on herself. Each creature of her choice in that area must make a DC 15 Wisdom saving throw. On a failed save, a creature takes 22 (5d8) cold damage and is Charmed for 1 minute. While Charmed in this way, the creature is incapacitated as it experiences soothing illusions of the Autumn Court. On a successful save, the creature takes half as much damage and is not Charmed. A Charmed creature can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success.

Whispers of the Court (Bonus Action). Isolda targets one creature she can see within 30 feet. The target must succeed on a DC 15 Wisdom saving throw or use its reaction, if available, to move up to its speed away from Isolda in a direction of her choice.

Reactions

Courtly Reprisal. When a creature within 30 feet of Isolda hits her with an attack, she can force the attacker to make a DC 15 Charisma saving throw. On a failed save, the attacker takes 10 (3d6) psychic damage and has disadvantage on attack rolls until the start of its next turn.
