Bryncoed Forest

One of the densest forests in the world, its compact canopy creates a dark and damp underbrush which makes off-road travel difficult. Towering, moss-draped ancient Oaks interlock their thick branches overhead, choking out daylight and trapping a permanent, cool mist near the soil. Navigation relies entirely on game trails and ancient, moss-covered stone markers, as the disorienting, dim atmosphere makes finding true north virtually impossible.
The forest floor is a tangle of rotting fallen timber, slick roots, and dense thorn-bushes that conceal deceptive sinkholes and mud traps. Travelers frequently report feeling an oppressive, watchful silence, broken only by the occasional drip of moisture or the unnerving, echoic calls of unseen predators lurking in the thickets. Because sunlight rarely touches the earth, bizarre bioluminescent fungi and rare shade-loving flora thrive along the gloom, attracting both herbalists seeking rare ingredients and scavengers drawn to the deadly perils of the unmapped deeps.
